The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has commenced consultation on proposed changes to Australia's imported sea container biosecurity framework, more specifically the Postcode Classifications and Rural Movement Policy. The review aims to improve the consistency and effectiveness of biosecurity risk management while providing clearer guidance for industry on the movement and unpacking of imported containers within Australia.
Postcode Classification Review
The department is proposing a new national postcode classification system to determine whether locations are considered rural or non-rural for imported container biosecurity purposes. A new postcode classification map is intended to provide greater certainty, consistency and transparency for importers, customs brokers, transport operators and other supply chain participants.
