The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has issued Import Industry Advice Notice 185-2026, confirming that Hungary and Slovakia have been reinstated to Australia's foot-and-mouth disease (FMD)-Free Country List, following biosecurity risk assessments.

The updated FMD-free recognition takes effect from:

  • Hungary: 10 September 2025

  • Slovakia: 31 October 2025

Importantly, restrictions remain in place for goods containing or derived from FMD-susceptible species sourced from or manufactured in Hungary between 3 February and 10 September 2025, or Slovakia between 3 February and 31 October 2025, unless alternative risk management measures apply.

Information about FMD and further information about the trade situation with Hungary and Slovakia can be found on the department’s website.
